Although Arash fled Afghanistan during the Communist government collapsed, there are many Afghan refugees that flee to Pakistan to this date as a result of unstable conditions in that country. Luckily, some refugees are able to return home, such as those pictured above.

At the age of 12, Arash and his family fled Kabul when the Communist government collapsed. Engulfed by civil conflict, Afghanistan became a less than ideal place to raise a family or pursue an education. To escape the instability and escalating ethnic violence, the family fled to Peshawar, Pakistan.

After escaping Ethiopia with her precious children, Felekech escaped to a refugee camp in Kenya, where she was given the option of resettling in another country.  While she had no preference of where to resettle, so long as it gave her children the opportunity to have live a better life, she eventually ended up on Canada’s East Coast. Today, she is a student and a published author.
